Leniency bias
Leniency error occurs when managers tend to be more lenient or going easy while giving feedback as compared to the peers giving the feedback.
Mean reversion or central tendency is a statistical phenomena where extreme data points are balanced.
When giving feedback, a manager can overcome leniency bias by:
- considering feedback from the peers about the individual
- being self-aware of the leniency factor in giving feedback
- calibrating the feedback with skip level manager
